ABOUT THE FILM
Due to industrialization, habitat loss, and other anthropogenic factors over the last two centuries, one quarter of all wildlife on planet earth now faces the very real threat of extinction.
According to the latest research in 2023, 48% of species on earth are currently undergoing significant population declines. Elephants, tigers, orangutans, gorillas, turtles... all are critically endangered, and no animal is closer to extinction than the rhinoceros.
At the brink of extinction, hope is not enough. We must act.
INKURA is the incredible true story about a daring solution to save the critically endangered eastern black rhinoceros and the heroic efforts taken by the men and women committed to their survival. The ninety-minute feature documentary combines expert interviews with vérité footage shot during the training, transport, and release of the rhinos, giving viewers a front-row seat to the action, tension, and drama. More importantly, it captures the love between rhino keepers and the animals they care for, and the great lengths being taken by those in the conservation space to help the most endangered species on the planet.
Most people never get to see a rhino in the wild or, if they do, they rarely get within 100 feet of it. INKURA invites viewers to be inches away from these horned leviathans, to become intimately familiar with each rhino’s story and personality. Helping viewers connect to the rhinos are their keepers – caretakers who, in many cases, raised the rhinos from birth and are now tasked with training them for this momentous journey.
INKURA is part travelog, part conservation film, and part celebration of the deep bond between humans and animals, a bond that can inspire audiences around the world to help and protect rhinos—and, similarly, so many more endangered animals—before it’s too late.
